My name is Darren Shan. Or at least, that's my name as far as you know. I'm a vampire. Specifically one of the Prince rank. I'm currently trying to keep a war from happening, so if you have a question, please be quick about it.
[Pre-KotD Darren blog. Will roleplay with pretty much everyone. See about for info.]
Since when had Darren gotten so sharp? He, for once, did not sigh and instead felt himself smile back at his assistant. He could feel the slightest amount of pride swell up inside of him.
"When did you get so wise?" He chuckled and looked down at the cat held out in front of him. Pushing his previous thoughts aside and replacing them with determination he picked up the cat and placed him in his lap. Keeping his legs crossed as he felt four little feet make themselves comfortable on his legs.
"You know, if this goes badly it will be on your conscience." He smirked, simply teasing him. Though he did tense when he felt the cat kneading his paws into his leg, claws included. "Oh joy."
"I had a good teacher. Everything I know I picked up from him." The male replied, shrugging his shoulders as he let Larten take the cat in hand. The creature mewled upon being taken away from Darren, but certainly seemed to find himself content in his new position.
"See? Larten likes you." Darren got to his feet and reached a hand out to pet the cat, who happily nuzzled him, kneading even more as the low rumble of a purr bubbled up inside of it. "So can we keep him please?"
"Taking matters into your own hands, I see." He smiled and chuckled to himself. He could not believe how proud he was of Darren sometimes. He took the responsibilities of a Prince very well and even now showed how he cared and wanted to change things for the better. Without warning he pulled Darren into a hug, that of which he did not do often.
"I would be honored to help in any way that I can." He smiled, ruffling the boy’s hair lightly with his hand. "You make a very fine Prince, Darren. Vampire Mountain is lucky to have you."
The raven haired male seemed mildly surprised at the embrace. Honestly Crepsley wasn’t the most affectionate mentor, but when he was, it was genuinely appreciated. Darren let his own arms wrap around the male, holding him tightly. As he pulled back the male ruffled his hair, an action that caused him to smirk slightly.
"You know that means a lot coming from you, Mr Crepsley." He replied. The compulsion struck him almost out of nowhere. Without really thinking he leaned up and pecked the male on the cheek, pausing for a moment upon realizing what he did. In an instant his face turned as red as the other vampire’s coat and he pulled himself away.
"Ah… sorry about that. Still trying to get a handle on these hormones, you know."
Larten actually tried not to sigh this time, he was getting tired of hearing it himself. He knew that he shouldn’t let the blatant puppy dog eyes and flattery get to him but his resolve was running thin. Uncrossing his arms and looking down at the cat once more he sighed, charna’s guts, and sat down across from the two of them.
"Your flattery will not work on me." Though he could admit to enjoying his assistant’s company. What after all of the time they had spent together Larten had a hard time picturing going anywhere without him anymore. Not that he had any plans of leaving him behind, but the sheer idea of it made his stomach turn unpleasantly.
"He will not like me, cats never do."
"I’ve been traveling with you long enough to know flattery doesn’t work. What I state is fact. You have plenty in common." The cat curled up once more in his lap, purring contently, opening its mouth and yawning. "As for cats not liking you, did you ever think it was your own mentality as well? I mean, if someone goes through their life thinking dogs don’t like them, when they go to meet one they’ll already have that negative mindset." It seemed Darren had learned a thing or two during his time in Vampire Mountain.
"You could give him a chance?" Picking the cat up he held it out to Larten. The feline seemed a bit irritated at being separated from the boy.
Larten wouldn’t say it out loud but, Darren was right. Almost entirely. In his years with the Cubs there were plenty of nights where Wester and him stumbled back to their room, clouded with alcohol, and did things that went far over the bounds of platonic. Just as many times as it did without alcohol involved.
"That is… very mature of you." He said with a slight smile, hold his gaze. "Not everyone is so open minded, but that is not to say other vampires do not feel the same as you do. There are plenty that do, they just might not be so open to talk about it." He sighed.
"Well…" He began, shrugging his shoulders. "As a Prince, I have the power to change tradition, do I not? I could put forth a proposal to make it more…acceptable. After all it isn’t the dark ages anymore." He grinned, practically bubbling with newfound purpose. "It will be my first order of business once this Vampanese Lord hunt is over with."
"I’m sure Vancha would agree with me as well. So that’s two Princes already, and you… if you wish to be involved." The boy had that glint in his eyes again, the same determination that burned through him when he endured his trials.
Once again he found himself sighing and shaking his head at his assistant; it was slowly becoming a bad habit of him. Though he did manage a light chuckle at the sheer nonsense behind Darren’s reasoning.
"I thought it was some sort of joke, it was not something I would expect out of you." He quirked an eyebrow at the latter of his statement. "Kind of?"
Darren shrugged. ”I don’t see anything wrong with a guy kissing another guy. I mean, you’ve said so yourself… Not a lot of women get blooded, and we outlive any girls we’d meet so wouldn’t it make sense for vampire men to get together every once in a while?”
He shrugged his shoulders. ”It was different from what I expected, I’ll admit. I mean, I’ve never kissed a man before.” The raven haired male stared up at his taller mentor. ”I suppose I really don’t care what a person is so much as who they are as a person.”
Larten was now glaring at Darren from under the hand that was currently placed over his forehead. “What are you both plotting against me now?” He grumbled as he walked towards the cat Darren currently had in his lap. When did his assistant turn into a begging dog? What and now he was pulling out the guilt trip, and once again he found himself sighing.
"Wipe that smirk off your face you little brat." He grumbled as he glared down at the two of them. "That cat hardly holds any of my likeness, to compare me to that fur ball is an insult."
"You two have a lot in common though." He held up the feline who stared placidly at the vampire. "You’re both grumpy, you sleep all day, and you enjoy running around and sparring." Darren couldn’t keep the grin off his face. In all honestly he thought he was being rather clever. "He’s also got a tuft of red right here on his head." The male pointed, as the feline in his hands once more nuzzled his hands, purring contently.
"You’re also fond of my company." This last statement was a bit of a sentimental one. Larten had become something akin to his only family. Honestly the Vampire Prince couldn’t imagine his life without Larten in it. The very idea sent shivers of fear through him.
Slapping him was not exactly the first thought in his mind but he had a feeling it should have been. What reason would he have to ask for such a s thing? Was he trying to make some sort of joke? Was he mocking him? Frowning slightly he decided to get what ever this was over quickly. Placing a hand on his shoulder he leaned in and connected their lips for mere seconds before pulling away.
"Any reason for such a request, Darren?”
"To be honest? Not really." The Prince shrugged. "The last person I kissed was Debbie, and that was over a decade ago." He shifted, looking away from the male as he rubbed the back of his head nervously. "The opportunity came up and I thought why not?" Darren shrugged. "Sorry if that weird request upset you. Though if it’s any consolation, it was kind of pleasant."
Larten sighed and shook his head back at his assistant, who just so happened to have a new furry.. ‘friend’ on his lap. He had never been a fan of cats, just as they had never really been a fan of him.
"I surely hope you do not plan on keeping that thing, Master Shan." He grumbled, crossing his arms and leaning back against the wall behind him. "I detest cats."
"Come on. Harkat thinks it’s a good idea." He stopped petting the feline for a moment, the cat’s purring slowed as it looked up to him, mewling. The teen wasn’t normally drawn to things with four legs [he much preferred those with eight] but leaving Madame Octa behind in Vampire Mountain really left a bit of a hole in his heart.
"I couldn’t keep Madame Octa, I couldn’t keep Rudi… At least let me have Larten." He couldn’t keep the smirk off his face, petting the cat once more as he looked up at it’s namesake.
"He even has a little cut on his cheek, just like you."
"Uh… this isn’t what it looks like, you know. It’s just this cat…. he kinda just sat on my lap. They don’t normally do this kinda thing and since he was there I thought I would just pet him you know…ah…” The Prince fumbled for an excuse as he stared up at his mentor.
"He’s just a stray. Came in through the window, I think."
